Abstract
Abstract: Dance movement therapy with sound improvisation and imagery can be valuable for people with severe physical paralysis. Developmental capabilities existing before the injury are utilized during treatment to further an adaptive adjustment to the injury. Since authentic movement is limited, sound improvisation and imagery are the basic tools of treatment. Music and movement are used to discover and experience the parts of the personality that were functioning before the injury. Methods of recall, sound as metaphor, and recorded sounds are part of the treatment program. The patient interacts with others, including his preinjured self, to reintegrate self-image and body image.
